Grange-Fermoy AC Annual 5 Mile Road Race

After the long wait, the first race in the Ballyhoura Series took place on May 1st with Grange-Fermoy AC holding the Annual 5 Mile road race in Kilworth Camp. The week leading up to the race the conditions were perfect for running but on the morning of the race it began to pour out of the heavens.
This put a damper on everything and it reflected with the number of people who turned out on the night.

The race was won on the night by Brian Murphy of Iveravgh AC in a time of 27.01 followed home in second by Danny Smith of Ballynonty AC in a time of 27.07 and third was Shane Simcox of Mallow AC in a time of 27.49. First lady home was our own Joan Ennis in a time of 31.24 followed home by Lorna Davey Fitzgerald in a time of 32.40 and third was Kealey Tidswell in a time of 32.48.
After the race everyone headed back to Ned Roches Pub (race HQ) for well deserved tea and sandwiches and reflect on what was a tough race due to the tough conditions of the weather.

We would like to thank everyone involved in making this race run off very smoothly. Thanks to all our sponsors who without we could not hold this event, To all the stewards who had to stand out in the rain, to all who baked and made sandwiches, everyone who helped out in Ned Roches with the cleaning and with the tea and registrations, Premier chip timing, who helped with the lead van and commentary, who gave out water and compotes, all the runners who turned up and the brave people who came out just to watch.
